New Aluminium Windows in Kensington, London
A block of nine residential apartments which sits on the corner of Hornton Street and Hornton Place in West London, Evelyn House presented some real challenges to the Heritage team. One of the most notable characteristics of the accommodation was the building’s bronze steel bay windows which featured unique ornate steel panels. Unfortunately, both the windows and panels had become badly corroded over the years and needed replacing.
The original structural kite-section steel mullions presented a challenge as we needed to find a way to encapsulate these in aluminium without showing any visible external fixings. Following a two year planning process, we manufactured and installed new double-glazed Benenden Conservation windows and replica bronze panels in-keeping with the Evelyn House’s period look.
Designed to replicate the appearance of traditional steel windows, we fitted all of the opening casements with bronze angled handles and matching peg-stays – while the fan lights were also fitted with bronze in-line handles from our traditional handles range. The windows were powder coated in a Marron D’Inde colour on the outside and white on the inside to match the building’s original décor.
We also custom made exact replicas of the original bronze effect panels using two bespoke extrusions fitted to an aluminium skin with a high-spec fire retardant backing. These were finished in the same Marron D’Inde powder coating to match the windows and original building.
