About the Woking area

Located in north-west Surrey, roughly 23 miles from central London, Woking is one of the best-connected and most-popular commuter towns outside the city. With around 60% of the borough designated as Green Belt space, there’s preserved open land with plenty of access to natural, outdoor spaces.

This means limits on where and when new housing can be built, contributing to strong, secure property values for Woking homeowners.

You can see Woking’s housing history in the huge variety of buildings on show throughout the town. Traditional Victorian terraces and semis still remain, with pre-1850 farmhouses and cottages standing proud, further from the town centre. You’ll also find 1930s semi-detached houses and post-war estates and terraces, as well as modern flats, apartments and towers built as part of the town’s sprawling regeneration project.

This all means that there is plenty of character in the buildings on show – which we’re honoured to help maintain.

Culturally, Woking is the hometown of ‘The Modfather,’ Paul Weller – lead singer of The Jam and The Style Council. He penned ‘A Town Called Malice’ about Woking, though today’s residents have plenty more to enjoy.

The town was also the setting for H.G. Wells’ sci-fi classic War of the Worlds, so you can find sculptures, trails and even a statue of Wells around Woking.

Woking is also home to the New Victoria Theatre, which hosts major touring productions, ballet, opera, comedy and West End musicals. For local art and contemporary exhibitions, The Lightbox won 2008’s Museum of the Year award and is well worth a visit.
